Having a baby was in my wish list ever since I started dating. I used always tell my boyfriend who is now my husband and a father of my 9 month old baby that we should have a baby immediately after getting married.
Unlike couples who plan for a baby after they are well settled, we decided to have a baby despite of have a lot of financial problems. We thought it was wise to have a kid and then get settled instead of getting settled and then keep trying to have a baby with all efforts in vain. But still, it was not easy for me to get pregnant; I got pregnant after trying for six months. The period of six months was very stressful. Every month the home pregnancy test use to show negative results. But we did not give-up and we decide to try for another six month and then consult a fertility specialist.
My In-laws used to stay separately in their own house and usually used to visit us on weekends. They too wanted to see the face of their grandchild as early as possible. Our financial condition did not bother them much as they thought it is ok to have a child as both of us were working. My in-laws are nice but it was very heart-breaking to hear the typical things about the not being able to conceive from them. The worst thing to hear from them was “even road-side beggars can have kids”.
We did not have anything at that time and we only had each other. We used to stay in a rented house. We were not stable financially as well. But still we were longing for a baby. But one thing was common between me and my husband that we knew that we would do whatever it takes to give the best things in this world to the child.
Finally, God blew some baby dust on us and one fine day I got pregnant. Both of us were jumping in joy to find pregnancy test positive. Obviously, we could not wait to announce this new to my in-laws. We immediately fixed an appointment with gynaecologist so that we can start monitoring the pregnancy. But this was not the end of the challenge. The most challenging thing was to travel in crowded trains in Mumbai in morning during pregnancy.
Every day I used to get in the train with the fear in mind of having a miscarriage. On top of that every day I used to get so called “Gyaan” about miscarriage and child loss from my sister-in-law who used to stay close to our house. Taking an auto-rickshaw to station was a strict “No” from her because of fear of miscarriage. As we used to stay close to her house she used to visit us at least 3 to 4 times a week. Every time I wanted to eat something she used stand in between with a caution board. I used wonder what all I will have to suffer and how much my sister-in-law will torture me before I give birth to my baby. But one thing I had decided in my mind that whatever it takes, I will definitely give birth to this baby, after all getting pregnant was a great achievement for us after trying for 6 long months.
